Tampa Bay Buccaneers Suffer Scary Injury in Minicamp

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers already had a shortened minicamp schedule, but a scary injury moment on Wednesday may have been a sign that they should have canceled practice altogether. Tampa Bay Buccaneers outside linebacker Mo Kamara collided with fellow outside linebacker Chris Braswell on a pass-rush ring drill, leaving Kamara injured and taken off by a trainer. According to Rick Stroud, NFL reporter for the Tampa Bay Times, Braswell seemed okay after the collision. The incident occurred on the final day of minicamp, and with training camp not starting until July, the Buccaneers may be wise to exercise caution with their players. Head Coach Todd Bowles said he thought Mo Kamara was okay after the practice injury, but hadn't heard from trainers for sure, as reported by Greg Auman, NFL reporter for Fox Sports. Chris Braswell's fate with the Buccaneers might be sealed, especially after the team landed upgrades to their defensive line this offseason, including the signing of edge rusher Al-Quadin Muhammad to a 1-year, $4 million free-agent contract. Braswell, a 2024 2nd-round pick, has demonstrated sound pass-rush acumen, producing 35 pressures on 322 pass-rushing snaps in his career, but his performance against the run has been subpar. The Buccaneers also have Yaya Diaby, who led the team in sacks twice in his first three seasons and has 19.0 career sacks headed into the final year of his 4-year, $5.4 million rookie contract in 2026. With the addition of Rueben Bain Jr., a superstar edge rusher from Miami, in the 1st round of the 2026 NFL draft, Braswell's role with the team may be expendable. As Bradley Locker, NFL reporter for Pro Football Focus, noted, Braswell is one of the top trade candidates ahead of training camp, given the new faces on the defensive line and his limited playing time. The Buccaneers have given Braswell plenty of chances over the last two seasons, but his production has been underwhelming, with only 2.5 career sacks. And with the team's focus on finding competent edge rushers, Braswell's time in Tampa Bay may be running out. So the Buccaneers will likely be looking to make some moves before training camp starts, and Braswell's name could be at the top of the list. But for now, the team will be holding its breath, hoping that Mo Kamara's injury isn't too serious. The Buccaneers won't all be together as a team until they come back together for training camp in July, and they can only hope that their players will be healthy and ready to go.
